This strange-looking animal was an ancient relative of the Marsupial Mole which lives today in the deserts of central Australia. The Riversleigh Marsupial Mole lived in rainforests, possibly using its flat front limbs to burrow through the soft soil and leaf litter of the forest floor. Like its modern relative, this marsupial probably fed on worms, insects and other small creatures.
