#16 -Name: GIANT ECHIDNA
-Scientific name: Megalibgwilia ramsayi
-Period: Late Pleistocene (1 million- 10,000 years ago)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Giant Echidna was a relative of the echidnas still found today in Australia and New Guinea. Its long beak was ideal for probing for grubs, which the Giant Echidna would have picked up with its long, sticky tongue. It had fewer protective spines than today's common Short-beaked Echidna, although it had longer legs and could have run quite quickly to escape trouble.
