 #17 -Name:   GIANT WOMBAT
        -Scientific name:   Phascolonus
-Period:   Late Pleistocene (1 million- 10,000 years ago)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Giant Wombat was a distant relative of today's wombats. Although it stood only 1m at the shoulder, its huge head was 40cm long - almost the size of a cow's skull. Its short legs were very stocky and powerful, which probably made the animal a strong digger. The Giant Wombat had large incisor teeth which it may have used to dig in mud for roots, or rip bark from trees and shrubs.
