27- Name: Great Auk Scientific Name: Pinguinus impennis
The Great Auk was a penguin-like bird found in the North Atlantic. It couldn't fly, but it was a superb swimmer, and fed by catching fish and squid. It nested on rocky islands where it was vulnerable to human hunters. The last Great Auk pair were killed in 1834 to provide museum specimens.
