16- Name: Santa Cruz Flying Fox Scientific Name: Nyctimene sanctacrucis
The Santa Cruz Flying Fox was found in the Solomon Islands. It was an unusual-looking bat, with tube-like nostrils. It lived in old-growth forests, and in the 19th century this habitat began to disappear. In 1892 the last specimen was collected, and the species has never been seen since.
