The Atlas Bear lived in the Atlas Mountains of North Africa. Like other bears, it was not a fussy eater, and fed on both plants and animals. Farmers considered the bear a threat to livestock, and hunted it heavily. It was also hunted for its fur. The last Atlas Bear was shot in 1870.
